Host a "Chocolates and Champagne" Bridal Toast

RevisedJumpingtheBroominvite.jpg

Did your BWG (Best WhimsiGirlfriend) and her guy recently decide to jump the broom?  Be the first to toast them publicly with chocolates and champagne!

Before the stress of wedding planning takes over and your BWG turns into Bridezilla, invite the couple and their closest friends over for chocolates and a toast.  It's the perfect opportunity for the couple to share the details of the proposal with everyone all at once.  Keep reading to learn all the secrets for a successful engagement toast -- without breaking the bank!

-- Invitations.  If you can manage to get the couple off of cloud nine long enough, find out who they would like to invite to the party.  Once you have the guest list, order Whimsicard's Jumping the Broom invitation like the one above.  If you're the creative type, write a poem and include it in the invite.

-- Atmosphere.  The jumping the broom invitations set the tone for a joyful and classy evening.  Now you have to carry out that feeling with your decor and music selection.  For decorations, stick with the baby blue and chocolate color combo!  It's so elegant.  As for music, get a list of the couple's favorite songs and play them in the background on an MP3 player while your guests mingle!

-- Jumping the Broom.  I believe every party should include a group activity (well, beyond eating and toasting!).  For this event, I suggest a game that incorporates the African American tradition of jumping the broom while exploring how much the guests know about the bride and groom as a couple.

What you will need:

--Broom (decorate it, if you like)

--Eight squares (large enough for the Bride and Groom to stand on individually)

--16 questions and 16 answers about the couple's life together

Prior to the day of the big event, ask the Bride and Groom approximately 16 questions about their life together.  Who was the first band or musician they saw together live?  Where did they meet?  What is their favorite movie?  Who saw whom first?  Let your imagination run wild.  Place the squares (I recommend using cloth napkins or construction paper) in two columns, four rows each.  The Bride stands in front of one column of four squares, and the Groom stands next to her in front of the second column of squares.  Place the broom at the end of the squares opposite from where the Bride and Groom are standing.  Split the guests up into two groups.  (Divide the guests along gender lines if you want to initiate healthy competition among the sexes.)  The group answering questions on behalf of the Bride is called the "Bridesmaids," and the group answering questions on behalf of the Groom is called the "Groomsmen."  There are multiple rounds in this game.  During each round, the hostess asks a question of the Bridesmaids and a different question of the Groomsmen.  At the end of each round, if both the Bridesmaids and the Groomsmen answer their questions accurately, the Bride and Groom each advance one square toward the broom at the same time.  If, however, the Bridesmaids do not answer correctly but the Groomsmen do, the Groom advances one square toward the broom, and the Bride has to stay behind.  The objective is for the Bride and Groom to jump over the broom together at the end of the game.  Good luck!

-- Food.  Nothing but chocolates!  It's a chocoholic's paradise.  Ok, ok, I understand if you feel like you must have something of sustenance for your guests.  What about chocolate covered strawberries or chocolate fondue with fresh fruit?  I just couldn't resist!

-- Cocktails and Champagne.  Dust off the martini glasses and the champagne flutes!  This party starts off with heavenly blue cocktails for mingling and finishes off with the bubbly stuff for the engagement toast.

Blue cocktail recipe:
1 oz Amaretto
2 oz  Blue Curacao
2 oz Pineapple Juice
1 oz White Rum
Splash fresh lime
Garnish with a pineapple (lightly covered with chocolate, if you're daring!)

-- Pictures.  Last but not least, please take pictures and share them with the happy couple and guests.  While you're at it, send them to me, too!  I'd love to see how your party turned out!
